COMMUNITY PROFILE - Melinda Chin, Directory of Community Services

Melinda Chinn was hired as Emeryville’s New Community Services Director in April, 2007. Melinda oversees the operation of the Recreation Center, Senior Center, and Child Development Center, and in her new capacity is in a key position to help coordinate community support for the Center for Community Life. The Emeryville Connection asked Linda to provide us with a background so residents could get to know her better. All answers below were provide by Melinda.

City and state where born and raised:

Born in Billings, Montana, but have lived most of my life in the Bay Area, the past 22 years in Livermore.

College(s) attended, and degrees: B.S. in Recreation Administration from San Jose State University

Current employer/occupation:

Director of Community Services, City of Emeryville

Spouse and kids?

Married 25 years to my husband Brian; no children. We have a dog named Murphy.

Any charitable/civic affiliations or memberships:

Member, California Parks and Recreation Society; currently Vice President of the Administrator’s Section.

Hobbies/interests:

Reading (cannot wait for the new Harry Potter book!); travel, especially cruising; and spending time in the town of Arnold (in the Sierras.)

The people are great and the shopping is fantastic!
