Thank You Friends and Wonderful Supporters From The Emery Ed Fund

The following is a message to the community from Eugenia Bowman, Executive Director of the Emery Ed Fund,

www.emeryed.org

At the Emery Ed Fund, it is partnership and community support that makes the difference. As we look back to last academic year, we have so much to be thankful for. During the last year we, the Emeryville community, the City of Emeryville, the Emery Unified School District and the Emery Ed Fund, together with all of our partners, including local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, and many others, made a demonstrated commitment to our youth.

Highlights include: we passed the Parcel tax (87% yes); the school district and a group of new and existing partners applied for and was granted funds through Prop 49 as well as a 21st Century Grant; the Wayne and Gladys Valley Foundation granted us $100,000 in support of the redesign of the Secondary School; the District received $300,000 from the Stuart Foundation and $100,000 from the Walter and Elise Haas Fund; the Fund exceeded our goals for our three fundraising events, the Pixar Behind the Scenes Benefit, the Ex’pression College Music Benefit, and the Pixar Ratatouille Pre-Release Benefit.

Funds received in support of the Emery Unified School District and the work with our partners more than tripled this year. Funds raised have been provided for teacher mini-grants for classroom supplies, art and music programs; field trips, leadership programs for students and teachers, discretionary grants for the Superintendent and School Administrators; college scholarships and stipends to Emeryville students to attend summer programs; Wellness initiatives, including nurse and social work intern programs; Coaching support for teachers, after school programming, school redesign, arts programming, and volunteer program support. This is moment to celebrate, to say thank you.

This is also a moment to enlist your continuing support in this work. Our great legacy of community change in Emeryville needs the continuing partnership of supporters like you, and the time and attention of volunteers. As we look ahead to this upcoming school year, we hope to obtain everyone’s partnership to achieve the next level of Emeryville’s model inspiration and success.

In case you aren’t aware, in addition to raising and distributing funds, the Emery Ed Fund manages a growing volunteer program in both Anna Yates Elementary and Emery Secondary School. Volunteers generously donate their time to programs such as reading aloud to young students, acting as tutors and mentors, pitching in at special events, and providing all around classroom support. If you are interested in joining us and sharing your talents with youth please get in touch with the Emery Ed Fund.

Good schools attract and sustain stability to the community and foster safe and stable families. Education is a key to community building, and your support, whether financial or otherwise, is an investment to directly improve the quality of life for all of us.

Please take the time now to consult our website at www.emeryed.org to learn more about getting involved with the fund: you can make a donation online and inquire about volunteering. In any event, we wish you a wonderful summer.

Thank you, again, Emeryville! We look forward to keeping in touch.

The mission of the Emery Ed Fund is to mobilize local and regional resources to bring increased funding, innovative programs and strong partnerships to Emery’s schools.
