Enrollment Opens for Kindergarten, First Grade

The enrollment period for the Emery Unified School District’s 2008-2009 school year has begun.

The district began accepting enrollment forms for new students on February 1. Enrollment is based on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible students. It is also limited to the number of spaces available in each grade.

There are a total of 60 spots available in the three kindergarten classes at Anna Yates Elementary School. The district will accept a maximum of 20 transfer students prior to the start of the school year in late August. Students must be 5 years old by December 2, 2008.

There are also 60 students in Anna Yates’ three first-grade classes, but it is unknown at this time how many spaces will be available for new students in the fall.

District officials are urging parents of new and transfer students to enroll their children early as spaces can fill up quickly.

Emeryville parents will need to fill out an enrollment form available at the district offices at 4727 San Pablo Avenue. They will also need to bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization records, most recent report card, identification for parents or legal guardians and two documents proving the family lives in Emeryville (utility bills, water bill, cable TV, etc).

Families that don’t reside in Emeryville need to get permission from the district in which they reside. They also need to fill out an inter-district transfer request. Parents of transfer students should also let Emery school officials know if they work in Emeryville, if the student has siblings at Emery schools and if the student has child-care or after-school services in Emeryville.

Parents of new students can take tours of Anna Yates Elementary, 1070 41st St., at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday. They can call 510-601-4907 to make a reservation.
