Resident Makes Another Donation to EUSD

Marcelline Krafchick has once again demonstrated her devotion to public education in Emeryville.

In December, Ms. Krafchick generously donated $10,000 to the Emery Schools as a tribute to former Superintendent Tony Smith. The donation is earmarked to provide professional development and stipends for science teachers, and stipends for parent assistants and science presenters for the students and teachers of Anna Yates Elementary School.

Marcelline described what motivated her to make this latest contribution. “On the way home from Tony’s going-away party I heard on the radio that Bay Area schools are doing poorly in math and science, with teachers spending too little time on science because of inadequate training. It naturally occurred to me that a suitable tribute to Tony would be a $10,000 grant to the Emery Ed Fund in his honor, specifically for training of teachers in science at Anna Yates. Since I moved here a decade ago I’ve been enthusiastic about our schools, and Tony was just the ticket for Emeryville’s needs.”

Prof. Krafchick has already donated more than $65,000 to Emeryville schools, mostly for Anna Yates’s music program. Her generosity has assured that the music program will continue.

John Gooding, President of the Emery Ed Fund, said “Marcelline has been so generous to the students of the Emery Unified School District through her remarkable support of the music program, and now, with this wonderful gesture to honor Tony and to make an impact in our science programs. Thank you, Marcelline.”

“I’m pleased to pay tribute to Tony’s inspiring leadership” said Marcelline. “With the excellence of EUSD administrators and staff and strong City support, there’s no reason why math and science shouldn’t aim for the top.”

The Emery Ed Fund mobilizes local and regional resources to bring increased funding, innovative programs and strong partnerships to Emery’s schools. For more information about the Emery Ed Fund, please refer to the website at www.emeryed.org, or call 601-4999, or email info@emeryed.org.
