CERT TIP OF THE MONTH: CHECK YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHER TODAY

Have you ever wondered on what type of fires would you be able to use your fire extinguisher? Do you know if you can use the fire extinguisher in a kitchen fire or electrical cord fire? Could the same fire extinguisher be used to put out a car engine fire?

There are basically four different types or classes of fire extinguishers, each of which extinguishes specific types of fire. Newer fire extinguishers use a picture/labeling system to designate which types of fires they are to be used on. Older fire extinguishers are labeled with colored geometrical shapes with letter designations. Important! Check to make sure that your fire extinguisher is labeled to suppress the type of fire that may occur around you. Get to know your fire extinguisher today!

Make sure that if you have a multi-purpose extinguisher it is properly labeled for the type of fires that may occur in your home or office.
