PIXAR EVENT RAISES $83,000

Pixar Studios has created another happy ending.

The company hosted a screening of its new movie, Ratatouille, on June 8 at its Emeryville headquarters, delighting movie fans and helping local schools.

The fund-raising event sold out. All 234 seats in Pixar’s theater were taken. The screening raised $83,045 for the Emery Education Fund.

The June fund-raiser is the latest in a series of events Pixar has organized the past six years for the schools in its community.

“It’s just one example of the many things Pixar does for us,” said John Gooding, president of the Emery Ed Fund (EEF).

Gooding pointed out the screening not only attracted members of the community, it also drew in local businesses, four members of the Emeryville City Council and Assemblywoman Loni Hancock as well as Henry Der and John Quinn, the two men who oversaw Emeryville schools as state administrators when the district was in financial straits in 2001.

Pixar officials said their company simply believes they should be part of the community, not just a business that has its offices located in a city. They also say the fund-raisers reflect the message behind their movies.

“What we do at Pixar is promote the health, education and welfare of children,” said Randy Nelson, a Pixar vice president. “This is an event that promotes the health, education and welfare of children.”
