Be an Emeryville CERT member, be prepared

Have you ever wondered about the different types of hazards around us? Do you know how to react in a case of a disaster? What about a major fire? A major earthquake?

Are you prepared?

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a program that is taught by the Emeryville Fire Department to get the residents and employees of Emeryville educated about disaster preparedness for disasters and emergency situations. With the training, exercises and drills taught in the monthly classes, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an emergency when no other professional help is readily available.

Under the direction of Fire Chief Steve Cutright, Emeryville firefighters have been teaching this class for over a year and a half. Over 60 men and women have been trained and certified in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

“CERT is a wonderful addition to our community preparedness” says our Mayor Nora Davis, a big

supporter of the program. “I am very thankful to our Fire Department for its time and dedication and very proud of our CERT members”.

A new session will start on June 21, 2007. You can sign up by sending an email to cert@ci.emeryville.ca.us.
