Novartis Community Day Gives Back to Neighbors
More than 450 Novartis employees took the day off on April 24 to contribute to the community where they work. Fences were painted, buildings renovated, kids played with, scarves knitted and tips on job seeking were dispensed during the day.
All the participants were volunteering for Novartis’ annual Community Partnership Day, an event observed at all the bio-medical research firm’s campuses around the world as a way of giving back to the communities that support them.
They fanned out to schools and Headstart playgrounds in Emeryville as well as neighboring Berkeley and Oakland to play games with youngsters and to learn techniques for keeping kids safe. They renovated offices and parking lots for non-profit agencies, knit scarves and caps for cancer patients and raked and trimmed landscaping along San Pablo Avenue
Volunteers aided groups helping some job-seekers obtain professional attire for employment interviews, while others rotated them through a series of mock interviews teaching the would-be workers how to make positive impressions in real interviews.
